This model is a frame-mounted version of the well-proven back pack originally put into service in the 1980s and still used by many Fisheries Organisations including the Environment Agency. The simple-to-set and easily-adjusted controls make this back pack a winner over more complex alternatives. The pulsed frequency can now be set to 40 or 60 pulses per second and pulse width is variable from 0 to 50%. The voltage output is available in 2 ranges. The first range is 0 to 200 volts DC at 300 watts and this is ideal for higher conductivity waters where lower voltages and higher currents are required. The second range is from 0 to 400 volts DC more suitable for lower conductivity waters. The batteries will last longer when using Pulsed DC output and lower voltage settings coupled with lower pulse width settings will provide greater battery endurance.
A tilt and float switch is fitted in order to reduce the electrical output from the fishing machine immediately to zero in the event of the operator either falling over or stepping into deep water.
The FC400BPS40-2 machine employs a short circuit proof switch mode power supply and the control circuits are protected by a 20 mm fuse. Float and tilt switches are fitted to ensure safe cut out of the power if the operator should inadvertently fall over or step into deep water. If this should happen the REST button must be pressed when the operator requires to start fishing again.
The controls are a STOP button to isolate both poles of the battery DC supply. A START or RESET button is provided to prepare the machine for fishing after the anode and cathode have been deployed under the water. This button will also need to be pressed in order to restart fishing operations after the tilt or float switches have operated. A switch is fitted to select the 0 to 200 volts range or the 0 to 400 volts DC range and a second switch is fitted to select either Smooth DC or Pulsed DC output. A voltmeter scaled 0 to 500 volts reading the output DC voltage from the unit and a battery condition meter are fitted and a 0 to 3 amp ammeter can be fitted if required as an extra. "POWER ON" and "FISHING ON" LED indicator lamps are fitted to indicate the controller state. A control for adjusting the output voltage level is provided and a second control is used to adjust the pulse width when the controller is set to operate in pulsed DC mode.
This machine is specially designed for use in a wide range of water conductivities. For higher conductivity waters the low voltage ranges should be used and for lower conductivity waters the high voltage range will be preferable. In both cases the battery drain will be lower when Pulsed DC is used and the battery drain will also be enhanced by using pulse width and pulse height (Voltage setting) setting as low as possible, consistent with effective fishing operations.
2 sets of 24 volt 7 amp hour batteries are supplied with each machine.
2 automatic chargers fitted with standard 13 amp plugs are supplied with each machine.
There are 3 sockets mounted on the box viz: A blue BS 4343 3 pin and white 3 pin waterproof socket are fitted for the anode and a yellow waterproof 3 pin socket for the cathode connection.
All machines are supplied with an anode any length from 1.2 to 2 metres long and a stainless steel head either circular or triangular as required by the customer. A fixing bolt for the conductor head and spanner are supplied with each anode. The anode can be specified in terms of the length of pole, the length of cable, the position of the safety switch on the pole and the size and shape of the anode end conductor.
All machines are supplied with a cathode with 2 metre cable and 1.5 metre heavy duty tinned copper braid. Other lengths of cable and conductor can be specified if required.
A 3 year warranty is given with each machine and this is valid except in cases of misuse or accidental damage. The warranty is a 'return to base' warranty. This means that the customer must return the suspect unit back to our works whereupon the item will be assessed, the repair will be carried out quickly and the unit returned to the customer at our expense. This is subject to the warranty being approved for free repair under our terms and conditions. Repairs will always take precedence over production and we are very pleased to operate this policy, since it supports our constant attention and devotion to improving the design, reliability and serviceability of our products, as well as assuring all customers of our unwavering attention to service and detail.
INSTRUCTIONS AND SPARES:
A full set of instructions is provided with every machine giving details of training contacts for those users new to electric fishing. Also a full set of spare fuses is provided.
Different sockets for anode and cathode may be fitted including BS4343 sockets or Fischer sockets. The Fischer anode socket is type D105 A036-60 and the cathode socket is D 105 A051-130. A switch may be fitted to enable the unit to operate as a non portable machine and long cable anodes and cathodes may be supplied to make this operation more useful.
